WALKING IN THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF GOD

A BRIEF COMPENDIUM OF THE SERMON PRESENTED BY REV. O. T. BENSON ON THE TOPIC “WALKING IN THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF GOD” ON SUNDAY, 25TH APRIL, 2021

The Minster began by defining consciousness as the ability in which someone is able to know and assimilate what is happening around one’s environment. Thus, it is the awareness of something for what it is. The bible reading was taken from Psalm 27: 1-6 and Psalm 23: 4. The text of emphasis was Psalm 27: 1.

The Clergy noted that walking in the consciousness of God is depicted in having the knowledge and awareness of what God is all about. He asserted that whatsoever a man is conscious of determines the quality of his life. Therefore, a man conscious of who God is will fulfil God’s purpose in his life.

The Minister charged the congregation to emulate David by always trusting and seeking God. David saw God as a fortress and his hiding pavilion. The scriptures read pointed out that God is a shield and fortress and will always fight for those who trust in him and walk in his consciousness for He never fails.

INTRODUCTION
IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THE ALMIGTHY GOD HAS GIVEN A WARNING TO THE ENTIRE LAND OF THE UNIVERSE THAT BEHOLD THE DAYS COME THAT “I WILL SEND A FAMINE IN THE LAND, NOT A FAMINE OF BREAD NOR A THIRST FOR WATER, BUT OF HEARING THE WORDS OF GOD.”

WHAT IS FAMINE?

A PREVAILING DROUGHT CONDITION THAT CAN CREATE PROBLEMS IN PLANTING, GROWING AND SUCCESSFUL HARVESTING OF CROPS. THIS CAN RESULT IN SCARCITY OF FOOD THEREBY RESULTING IN HUNGER IN THE LAND

WORDS OF GOD:
WHAT IS THE WORD OF GOD
(JOHN 1:1 -5)

IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD AND THE WORD WAS GOD. THE SAME WAS IN THE BEGINNING WITHN GOD

ALL THINGS WERE MADE BY HIM AND WITHOUT HIM WAS NOT ANY THING MADE THAT WAS MADE.

IN HIM WAS LIFE AND THE LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF MEN

AND THE LIGHT SHINETH IN DARKNESS AND THE DARKNESS COMPREHENDED IT NOT

JOHN 6:63B: THE WORDS I SPEAK UNTO YOU THERE ARE SPIRIT AND THEY ARE LIFE

IF JESUS HAD NOT RISEN FROM THE DEAD

REV O. T. BENSON CHARGES THE CHURCH ON THE VICTORIES THE CHURCH HAS IN THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST TO MARK EASTER SUNDAY

Rev. O. T. Benson revealed the victories the Church has in Christ’s Resurrection in a brief charge before leading the Congregation to a session of prayers. The Bible reading was taken from the book of Psalms 124: 1-8 and Mathew 28: 1-6. The minister noted at the beginning of the sermon that if Jesus did not die for us, we would still be in the dark. He went further to list the benefits of the Resurrection of Jesus:

  • It is the gateway to our victory: if Jesus had not been risen from the dead we would have no victory.
  • It is the gateway for our achievements: Christ’s Resurrection brought success to Christians.
  • His resurrection is the gateway to our dominion: it gives the believer the assurance that they are in-charge. We subdue and dominate because of the Resurrection of Christ.

DIRECT QUOTES BY REV O. T. BENSON

  • “Victory is found in the Resurrection of Christ”
  • “His death did not only bring impact on our souls, he died a holistic death.”
  • “The Resurrection of Christ covers all aspects of our lives, and not just the spiritual.”

AN ADDRESS PRESENTED BY THE CHURCH COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN, ELDER ENOBONG E. ATAT, AT THE THANKSGIVING SERVICE OF EWET YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION HELD AT QUA IBOE CHURCH, EWET OFFOT, 112 NWANIBA ROAD, UYO ON SUNDAY, 4TH APRIL, 2021.

The President, The Executive Committee and Members of Ewet Youth Development Association

Calvary greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!

On behalf of the Resident Minister, The Exco, The Church Committee and entire members of the congregation, I welcome you to the Church this morning: The Church of your great grand fathers established in 1909.

We are happy for the giant strides this Association has made over the years in providing a conducive environment for the Church to exist and operate.

We recall the support the Association gave when storms arose to swallow this Church. You mobilized all the resources in your arsenal and the enemy flee. Today we have one indivisible Church, Qua Iboe Church, Ewet Offot which has metamorphosed to a Township Superintendency Headquarters.

Our relationship is not a one-off affair but a mutual relationship that makes us consult from time to time for the benefit of both parties.

As a responsive partner we have always responded to your requests within the limits of available resources.

Apart from the financial assistance this Church has given over the years, we have engaged a number of your sons and daughters in paid employment in the School.

Last time you requested for some scholarship for your children. In consultation with the School Board headed by Elder David Etukudo we have approved a full Tuition free scholarship for one girl and one boy for six years in the school with effect from the next School year (i.e. 2021/2022 school year).

This morning we have, in the spirit of the season of love, commissioned 4 water points to provide water to the immediate community of the Church. We shall do more.

We however request for more support from you. In this era of security challenges we look up to you for support; on the facilities we have provided, we urge you to ensure that they are safeguarded.

Once again I extend the greetings of the Easter Season to the Exco and members of your Association.

Thank you!
